Meet the Angels

Sonja Heigl

Salsa dancing has been my passion for the past 10 years, & although I have always loved Latin music, it was a long time before family commitments allowed me take it seriously! The music is still my first love & creating shows to the music that inspires me is a dream come true.

I also teach both leading & following up to Improver level & am co-director of Salsa DX, with Angus Peters, which is is a great help with the choreograhies!

Emily Wood

I started dancing at the age of four with ballet, jazz and tap lessons; taking exams and entering competitions in ballet and jazz.

I have continued ballet into adulthood. I started Salsa dancing with AbanicoSalsa in 2006 and loved the New York style and mixing dancing with socialising at party nights.

Nicky Curgenven

Tap & disco started off my early love of dancing, however, it wasn't until 2007 that the Salsa bug caught me!!I started Salsa DX classes, enjoying it so much, i just had to start learning partner Salsa in 2008.

The music, energy, great fitness boost, fun & friendly people all cemented my love of all things Salsa.  I even teach Salsa DX classes now!

As part of the Abanico Angels, I get the opportunity to showcase great Salsa choreography, set to fabulous Salsa music. I hope the love of Salsa comes across in our fun, high energy performances.

I first discovered Salsa in 2005 whilst living in Salisbury & was pleased to to find Abanico Salsa teaching in Exmouth when I moved there in 2009. Usually quite shy & retiring (according to my family!) Salsa has seduced me into developing my confidence & is a great opportunity to be glamorous, ladies!

Joining the Abanico Angels is also a fantastic is a fantastic way of learning complex (& fast!) shines & routines. The adrenalin rush of performing is so amazing... & I can't wait to be part of future shows!

Gina Hack

I've always enjoyed dancing as a form of exercising (ballet/jazz ballet/line dance/aerobics/zumba) & discovered Salsa DX classes5 years ago.

I really love the music & energy of Salsa...it's a great fun way to keep fit & I'm enjoying the challenge of learning choreographies & performing as part of the Abanico Angels team!
